Screening animated films is a huge and exciting part of the projects Animation Jam supports. Whether its in the classroom, school hall, community centre or film festival, watching the films on a bigger screen with an audience is amazing for the young film makers involved.

Some of our films made it big!

Forces Children Scotland up for an award!

Animation Jam supported amazing pupils at Firrhill High School in Edinburgh to make an animated film about their lives as kids with family in the armed forces. The film has been accepted into the Scottish Youth Film Festival Scottish Youth Film Foundation and will hit the big screen in October 2026!

Best Film by under-11 years - First Light Awards 2012

In 2011, this lovely animated comedy, Granny Mac’s Meringues, was made by school pupils from Burntisland Primary School in Fife and won best film in the under 11s category of the First Light Awards. Some of the class attended the awards at the Southbank in London and gave a brave interview! They were just Primary 3 pupils at the time!

I loved helping the class make this film, we made a bit of a mess of the classroom with all those elaborate sets, but it was so much fun! We had amazing support with story telling in the class from Liz Whatmore, who also helped them with the songs!

Plus their interview at the festival is still online!

There’s an article about the making of the film here!
