Leuchars Primary school
In 2024 the Animation Jam worked with the Primary 6 class at Leuchars Primary School to create an animation telling stories from the local army regiment's history. Many of the pupils had family in the regiment but this was the first time they had learned about the wider history of the regiment and base.
This project culminated in a film that was then displayed in the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards Museum in Edinburgh for visitors to see.
We spent 5 days with the class, starting with a presentation and handling of artefacts from the museum by Stuart Kennedy, the museums curator. Pupils chose mini stories to focus on in groups and were given information packs featuring photos, diagrams, maps and historical context. They were encouraged to make animated scenes to represent their groups story. Many of the pupils had to do research into details such as period clothes, battle details and locations.
